{a coastal view out of Cali}
I’m back!
I snuck away to my home away from home for a long weekend and decided to take a little breather.
As always, it did not disappoint.
{Ohio River}
One of the most common reactions I get since becoming a regular visitor to the Kentucky/Ohio area, is why?
What on earth is an LA girl like me, doing in a small town on a regular basis? It throws people off. So many perceive Los Angeles as the city of dreams and as an outsider looking in, they see me having the world at my finger tips. They say they envy me, but what they don’t know, is I so desperately envy them.
You see, my life has never been simple. Ever since I was a little girl things were always chaotic. Lots of change. Lots of uncertainty. I’ve come to realize that the simplicity of this place, balances me out. A sense of calm hoovers over me when I am there and I am happy. I am aware of the push and pull of two very different lives, the complexity that I know so well, and the simplicity I crave. Who said you can’t have the best of both worlds anyways?
Chris said something to me this past weekend that got me thinking…
“Babe, I feel like you’re always culturing me because you’ve seen so much, but I’m not sure if I culture you… it’s simple here”.
And while this is a very valid statement, what is not realized, is how much culture we get from simplicity. Simplicity is a culture in and of it’s self. It amazes me how far I have stretched myself to a life so different than what I have always known.
Life where you bump into your cousins at the convenience store, spend the afternoon riding 4 wheelers through the back roads into dusk, have you waitress call you by your first name, use your driveway to create the perfect hopscotch game with sidewalk chalk, pump your gas and THEN pay, sweet tea on front porch swings, getting taken by the hand to an open dance floor when that perfect song comes on and just dance….this is culture.

And while I may have taught him to appreciate a good wine and shown him the Hollywood sign, my takeaway goes deeper than that. Each time I visit, I fill my cup up a little bit more with culture, values, and love. We live in a world so wide that it feels good to find what shakes us at the center of our core. This place is it for me.

A trip with Landyn is in the works. I can’t wait to share this part of my life with her.

I am so with you. Everything thinks LA is the best place in the world, why would we ever want to leave…but it gets so exhausting living in a place that is always go go go. a place with SO many peole sometimes you just wanna scream. Living in slower pace of life is something we want. Yes, we lived in Texas and I hated it. But I know there are so many better places other than CA and we cannot wait to find what suits us.
Sounds like you LOVE going to the simple life too!
yay for this post! i agree! i love to visit “real” cities too, but i would never want to live there. there is definitely a sense of peace about simple and basic. the world is full of places for us all.
You sound like me before I moved from a large city to a small town of around 3500-4000 people. Sometimes its hard for others to understand unless they been raising in a faster pace environment. I feel in love with a small town guy and moved to the town I call home. I felt a lot like you, I took in so much more from my husband and living simply. It took me awhile to enjoy living in this small town, and I still get freaked out when we go down a dirt road booning (which I never heard of till I moved out here, LOL. Oh how much fun that really is, wished I knew about it as a teen) thinking a psycho killer is going to kill us, and I begin to sweat. But everything else, I just love. I learned how simple is not boring but beautiful and comforting because you can count on it. I love going into different stores and they know me as well as my whole family, and we start chatting. Or going into town and not worry about leaving my wallet out in plain view in my car, ‘LOL I was able to finally slow down and enjoy it all. My best days are walking down a beautiful road taking pics of the girls running around. I am so glad you get to experience this, because let me tell you, it was life changing for me. Glad you had a nice getaway, and I am sure when you beautiful little lady goes there, she is going to fall in love with it.
You must’ve been close to my hometown! I live in Northern KY about 30 minutes south of Cincinnati. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Its gorgeous here.
You have no idea how much I loved this post!!
aww so glad you’re so happy! it sounds lovely down there…when you’ve lived in la your whole life, it’s refreshing to get out sometimes.
So glad you had a great time in our neck of the woods. Has Landry ever seen snow? What great fun it will be to build a snowman and make snow angels in the snow. I love the change of seasons. So happy you love our corner of the world. Loved your blog. God Bless!
Oops! I meant Landyn. Sorry
This is one of the reasons I loooove to visit bens family in wyoming. everything slows down a bit and i get to take a deep breath. ANd everyone smiles more
Love this Lindsay!!!
Everytime I go back home to Dallas, I’m reminded of my former life in the rat race. Yah, I miss all the shopping options, the amazing restaurants and museums, and my friends/family BUT slowing down and enjoying a different pace on a daily basis will help me live longer!
How exciting though – introducing him to new foods and experiences! We all have something to learn from others!
Y’all make an adorable couple!
So glad you got to get away.
xx
Wow! Beautiful photos!
Dropping by from the Live Laugh Rowe blog hop.
I love to see you SO happy!
I can’t imagine the hustle and bustle of life in LA compared to the “easy-go-ness” (not a real word!
) of Ohio/Kentucky. It has to be a stark contrast, but it’s probably SO nice to just get away and “be”
I’m excited for Landyn to be introduced to those things too. I think about you often friend, and continue to pray for you and Landyn each day. I’m glad to see all is going well
