A little “style” q&a

I swapped spaces with this lovely gal this week and I wanted to repost my style q&a from her blog in case you missed it.

Oh and have you entered the TARGET giveaway? If not theres still time to enter at the end of this post!

Lauren:  I take awhile to decide what to wear in the morning and can only imagine how that will change once a baby gets here! How much time to have to get ready in the morning?
Since becoming a momma, my morning routine is as simplistic as possible. Granted, I am blessed to work from home so I dont have to put too much into “dressing up” persay, but I still like to look put together. Maxi skirts, skinny jeans and a cute top, and accessories are gold. There are many week days when I will be seen in a fedora to avoid doing my hair…huge time saver. SO to answer your question, I say 30 minutes max.
Lauren: How and did your style change once you became a mom?
My style hasn’t changed too drasticlly since becoming a mom. I am all about age appropriate clothing but I didnt want to put myself in a box just because I was a mom. I think its important to take care of yourself after kids and still feel sexy and confident in your own skin. I may wear my shorts a little longer and save heels for special occassions, but other than that I am the same me I was before kids.
Lauren: What is your go to outfit?
During the winter months (mind you I live in southern california where the seasons are mild), my go to outfit is skinny jeans, a tee, a cardigan, scarf, and some booties or combat boots. During the summer I am more opt to wear a maxi skirt with a tank, or a sundress and a fedora and some gladiator sandals.
Lauren: How do you balance your time between blogging, being a mommy and everything else you do?
Time management and balance are my weak spots. I run two home based businesses and am a work from home single mom so I really have to be on purpose with my days. I usually save blogging for first thing in the morning and in the evenings after Landyn has gone to sleep, and I do my health coaching during the day when Landyn is in preschool or at nap time. I really struggle to find balance with all the social media channels that goes along with blogging, because it’s easy to get consumed in it. I try my best to never let any of it take time away from my daughter. One thing that really helps me is at night before I go to bed, to plan my next day. I make a list of what I need to do in the day ahead and then categorize accordingly.
Lauren: Do you ever worry or second guess about sharing your life on your blog?
When I first started blogging is October of 2009, I was super cautious about what I shared on the internet. The more I grew into myself as a writer I noticed that my open and honest posts is what really appealed to my audience. You have no idea how many people you are impacting when you share your heart and put it out there for the world to see. I really did some self growth in the process because I was always the type of person that cared what others thought of me. Sharing my story with the world allowed me to let my guard down, be vulnerable, and embrace what makes me uniquely me. I try to be as transparent as possible on my blog.
Lauren: What is your favorite thing about blogging?
There are so many aspects to blogging that bless me. Being able to journal my life in photos and words that I can revisit in later years and see growth, has to me the most rewarding. The blog world has opened my eyes to a community of women that inspire me everytime I turn on my computer. I have met girls I would have never crossed paths with that have become fast friends. As inividuals we are constantly growing into ourselves and I think this blog has really fine tuned what makes me tick. It’s an outlet. A testament. A community.

Style q&a blog swap

I am so excited to be doing a blog swap with Katie of for Lauren and Lauren today. She’s here answering some of my style related questions and I’m at her space doing the same. Oh and there is a giveaway involved. Take it away Katie…

Hi LeeLaLa readers! I’m so excited to be swapping blogs with Lindsay today! My name is Katie and I blog over at for Lauren and Lauren. My favorite thing about blogging has been getting to meet others, so I look forward to getting to know some of you! Lindsay and I had a fun to “interviewing” each other, so here are my answers to Lindsay’s questions:

How did you come to start a style blog? Have you always been fashion forward?

My sister Lauren and I had been reading fashion blogs for awhile and she, along with my sister in law (also a Lauren) convinced me to start one.  I honestly had no intention or plan for others besides my sisters and mom to read it.   The idea that others would be interested in what I’m wearing is a little ironic to me, since I used to be the farthest thing from “fashion forward.”  I wore t-shirts and soccer shorts or sweatpants most days in high school.  There were many days I’d walk into the kitchen and my mom would say “Are you really going to wear that to school?”  So I guess now I am making up for loss time with my love of clothes!

Where do you go for style inspiration?
I get most of my outfit ideas from other bloggers and pinterest.  There are many mornings that I scroll through my pinterest boards, trying to find something that I can copy.  I will say however, that I often feel like my copy outfits don’t work or quite match up, so some mornings that proves to be less helpful!
You’re a soon to be momma… how to you stay stylish with a baby bump?
It’s funny because so many things that I’ve bought the last few years thinking “I can definitely wear this when I’m pregnant” are far from things that would actually work now that I am pregnant.  Finding outfits to wear at the beginning definitely seemed to be the most challenging as I felt more awkward than cute and pregnant. It takes me much longer these days to find an outfit in the morning that will fit, feel comfortable and looks right.  I am not one of those “I am going to see how long I can go without wearing maternity clothes” girls and fully embraced maternity wear, especially shirts that were long and stretchy!
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that this phase is temporary.  I had so many ideas of what I thought would work and look cute when I got pregnant and it has not worked like that!  It’s easy for me to feel self conscious and second guess things I’ve worn but I try to remind myself to enjoy this stage as it will be gone before long!  I also learned that you have to do your best to not compare yourself to other pregnant woman – everyone is different and what works for someone may not work for you!
Any advice to aspiring bloggers on how to grow your readership?
I think the best piece of advice I could give is to make relationships with others.  This has helped to grow my blog, but more importantly has been the biggest blessing from blogging.  I have made real friends and found woman that I truly connect with and appreciate.  There are days when blogging overwhelms me and I feel pressure to grow my blog and second guess how I do things, but am then reminded why I love blogging and one of the biggest reasons is because of the relationships I’ve made.
Top 5 wardrobe essentials?
This is hard because I feel like it changes by season, but since I am longing for summer weather, these are my top warm weather essentials that I happily live in:
a maxi skirt, sandals, cotton dresses, chambray shirt, and accessories.
How many hours a day do you spend blogging and on other social media avenues?
This is hard as it varies week by week depending on how busy my schedule is.  I usually write most of my blog posts on the weekends so all I have to do during the week is add my outfit pictures, so I spend a few hours doing that.  Most mornings I spend about 20 – 30 minutes reading and commenting on other blogs, while I eat breakfast.  When we are home in the evenings, watching TV, I am usually doing the same thing, although I’d like to do that less as I often miss things in shows and feel like I’m too distracted!   Besides instagram, I often fail at keeping up to date on twiiter and facebook feeds but I kind of like it that way.  I struggle with balance of time I spend on my computer, and know that with this baby girl coming soon I will be forced to figure that out!
Where is your go to clothing stores?
I am a huge fan of Target and may even have a slight obsession with going to their store.  (But who doesn’t right?)  I also really love shopping at Old Navy.   With both of those stores I rarely buy things for full prices as they have great clearance finds!  While there are exceptions I try to follow my $15 rule for shopping.  I will say that you do have to go often as sometimes it is hit or miss. Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to meeting some of you!

Name Change after Divorce (your questions answered)

I’ve been receiving a steady flow of the same question, so I feel it was time to address the issue.

{if you are new here, start here}

As a result of my divorce, will I be going back to my maiden name “Roberts”, and will my blog name be changed as well?

Yes and No.

To me, I have always been Lindsay Nicole Roberts.

It’s on my birth certificate.

It’s my identity.

A marriage may have changed that legally, but I always knew what defined me.

Even 3 years after marriage, I still had trouble refering to myself as Lindsay Lee.

{enter the blank stares and confusion here}

I’ll never forgot the day I went to social security to make the change (and boy was that a daunting task).

I truly felt like a part of me died. CRAZY, I know, but so very symbolic of where I was at in my decision.

I spent 25 years as Lindsay Roberts. I had been writing that name since I was in kindergarden. I made a name for myself. It’s who I am.

For a brief moment in time I thought about keeping “Lee” for Landyn’s sake, but then it hit me that I’d be living a false identity. I am not a Lee.

I briefly married into the name, and there is nothing I choose to hold onto from that chapter of my life.

A beautiful daughter came out of it, and it’s perfectly ok for Landyn and I to have two different last names. I feel this is a significant step in the recovery and acceptance of my divorce. I choose to get back to my roots.

Now, for the blog.

Lee La La will remain the same. I have gone back and forth with the matter and have decided that this little space right here needs to remain consistant. I have created a name for myself and that should remain in tact. To me, Lee La La is a combination of Landyn and I both. I am able to see beyond my ex’s last name. My parents middle names are both Lee. My daughter is a Lee. I’ve created a business with Lee.

I only see beautiful things.

My legal name change is in the works, so over the next few months you will begin to see that. If you follow my personal face book page, you may have noticed I already go by Lindsay Roberts. That required a simple edit and save. The rest, is a tad more complicated.

I hope this clears up some confusion.
